The Village in Palmerton hosts annual health fair

An annual health fair was held Thursday at the Village at Palmerton.

Open to the public, and free of charge, the event proved to be a win-win for all those involved, according to Norma Kunkel, marketing and admissions director."There are several different vendors this year, and a few new faces from the community coming in," Kunkel said. "It's on par with years past."Kunkel said the health fair featured blood pressure screenings, cholesterol testing, depression screenings, drawings and more."I talked with members of the community who said they were very happy with the information that was available to them, and the blood pressure and cholesterol screenings," she said. "I think it's a good networking event with the professionals to get together and talk about the services and compare."Pam Scott, of Palmerton, said she was glad she attended."It's very educational," Scott said. "They were telling me a lot about things for people that need help for things like depression, nursing homes, diabetes, all kinds of disabilities."Richard Kibler, of Long Pond, said he had his reasons for attending the event."To get my cholesterol checked, blood pressure," Kibler said. "It was more or less what I expected."Libby Klementovich, RN, Hospice Admissions Coordinator, St. Luke's University Health Network, Lehighton, said it's important for the community to know the types of services that are at their disposal."We talk to them about the Five W's of Hospice, Who, What, When, Where and Why, and what our organization is all about," Klementovich said. "It's about promoting quality end-of-life care."The Village at Palmerton is a personal care home that provides individualized personal care services addressing the physical, social and spiritual needs of each resident.
