York police catch man who planted fake bomb in Nesquehoning

A Lansford man suspected of harassing and threatening a Nesquehoning woman with a fake bomb has been caught in York County.

Nesquehoning Police Chief Sean Smith said his department received a tip yesterday that John Robert Large, 49, was at a York County hospital.

Nesquehoning Officer Timothy Wuttke contacted York police, who went to the hospital to get Large.

Large assaulted several hospital staff when he learned he would be taken into custody, Smith said.

Although Large ran, York police caught him.

The Carbon County Sheriff’s Department is making arrangements to have Large returned here.

Large faces a felony charge of risking or causing a catastrophe; and charges of making terroristic threats with the intention of terrorizing another, terroristic threats to cause serious public inconvenience, criminal mischief/tampering with property, disorderly conduct, and harassment.

The charges stem from an incident on June 14 in the borough.

Nesquehoning police believe Large, who has a troubled history, slashed tires and damaged cars belonging to Maureen Osinchak and her husband, Tom.

Osinchak works works as an administrator for HCR Manor Care, Bethlehem.

She told Wuttke that Large, whose daughter is a resident, was aggressively pushing for her discharge to a facility in Hometown. Police had been called to Manor Care to have him removed.

Large doesn’t have custody of the girl and so cannot make her medical decisions.

He also left disturbing notes, and a box with “tic toc” printed in large letters near Osinchak’s car.

The “bomb” turned out to be a duct-tape encased box of Honey Nut Cheerios.

Large fled when he learned police suspected him of causing trouble at the Osinchak’s house.
