Teen rides bike into side of cruiser

A Mahanoy City teen rode his bicycle into the side of a borough police car.

State police at Frackville said the incident occurred at 7:18 p.m. Monday, at the intersection of S. 13th and E. Market streets in Mahanoy City.Troopers said a 13-year-old male was riding his bike, a Havoc Hyper mountain bike, northbound on 13th Street, which is one-way southbound, while patrolman Jonathan McHugh, of Tamaqua, was operating a borough cruiser, a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria, eastbound on E. Market Street, which is a one-way street, westbound.At the intersection the bike collided into the driver's side door of the cruiser. Both the bike and police vehicle sustained moderate damages.The teen was injured but initially declined medical attention. He was later transported to a hospital by his mother, troopers said.Troopers said the teen was warned about riding the wrong way on a one-way street. The police report also states the investigation is continuing and that the teen may be charged with several traffic violations. McHugh was not injured in the incident.
