Six admit to drunken driving in Carbon pleas

Six defendants in pending driving under the influence cases entered guilty pleas on Tuesday in Carbon County court.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accepted the pleas from the following:Tyler Matthew Hosier, 22, of Palmerton, was arrested on Feb. 2 along Delaware Avenue in Palmerton by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was 0.11 BAC.He also pleaded to three summary motor vehicle code violations of unregistered vehicle, seat belt violation and expired inspection sticker. That incident occurred on April 23. A second DUI charge, for an incident on Oct. 25 2011, along Route 248 was withdrawn by the district attorney's office.On the DUI count Nanovic placed him on probation of six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, and continue his current counseling. Hosier told the court he had entered a rehabilitation program after his DUI arrest in February.On the three summary counts he was fined a total of $110 and costs.Ronald Warren Bauer, 50, of Lehighton, was arrested on Nov. 5, 2013, along Long Run Road in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was 0.18 BAC.He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300, and get a D&A evaluation.Gary Scott Rex, 47, of Palmerton, was arrested on Oct. 26, 2013, along Forest Inn Road, in Lower Towamensing Township, by state police at Lehighton. He refused a blood test.Sentencing was postponed so Rex could apply for placement in the Intermediate Punishment Program. He is facing a mandatory jail term.Jeffrey Lynn Gildner, 50, of Palmerton, pleaded in two pending cases. He was arrested on Sept. 22, 2013, along Fireline Road, in Lower Towamensing Township, by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was 0.13 BAC.The second arrest occurred on Oct. 9, 2013, along Route 248, in Franklin Township by state police. He refused a test.On the Sept. 22 case he was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300.On the second count he was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $2,500, one year license suspension, and get a D&A evaluation.The jail term begins at 8 a.m. on Aug. 1.Ervin Jonathan Fetherman, 22, of Altoona, was arrested on Aug. 1, 2013, along Route 209 in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, it showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred.Shannon M. Hettler, 33, of Lehighton, was arrested on July 27, 2013, along Route 209 in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was 0.21 BAC.Sentencing was deferred so Hettler could apply for the IPP. He is facing a mandatory jail term.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs, which average about $1,500, and a $50 per month supervision fee.
