A petition was being circulated in Jim Thorpe by a group headed by John Otto of Broadway, Jim Thorpe, seeking to restore the original name of "Mauch Chunk."

David Miller, a member of Jim Thorpe Borough Council, and a member of the East Mauch Chunk Council 10 years ago, before the merger, said, "Ten years ago I voted for the change of the name of the borough. Since its name has been changed, I can see nothing of benefit in the borough. I now favor having the name changed back."
