Franklin teams suffer setbacks

Both Franklin Township teams competing in Babe Ruth State Tournament action this week suffered setbacks.

Babe Ruth13-15 State TournamentMifflin County-Franklin Twp.For the second straight day, Franklin Township suffered a tough loss. This time, it was a 4-3 setback on Friday to Mifflin County in eight innings.Mifflin was able to scratch across one run in the top of the seventh to tie the game 3-3, then produce one more in the top of the eighth to claim the win.Jake Burkhart once again had a solid day at the plate for Franklin, going 3-for-4 with a double and run scored. Max Pompa also scored a run, and Derek Joyce knocked in two.Franklin will now turn its attention to West End today at 5 p.m. It will conclude pool play against Aston Valley on Sunday at 2 p.m. The top four teams during the pool play portion of the seven-team tournament advance to Monday's semifinal round.Finishing strong is something coach Dirk Pompa is looking forward to doing."The way I see it, we have two games left and a chance to finish this tournament .500," Pompa said.
