The July meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the Tamaqua Municipal Building with Randolph Gormley, James Gormley, Shirley Becker, Earl Boettger, health officer Judith Hadesty R.N. and Matt Meyers, code enforcement officer, in attendance.Meyer reported no new licenses were issued since the June meeting. The code enforcement office received and adjusted numerous complaints in June.There were no cases of reportable diseases during the last month.The board meets at 10 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St., Tamaqua.Cressona BandThe Cressona Band will perform two free concerts this month.The first will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on July 20 at Heisler's Dairy Bar in the Lewistown Valley. A concert will then be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on July 23, at the East End Playground.Movies in the parkThe East End Playground Association is continuing its Thursday night "Movies in the Park." This week's feature will be "American Girl: McKenna," based on the popular American Girl series of dolls and accessories.Movie goers are welcome to bring their dolls to the movie, which will begin at approximately 8:30 p.m.Ballet workshopThe Tamaqua Community Art Center will offer a Summer Ballet Workshop if there is enough interest in the subject. The workshop will be open to potential dancers between the ages of 8-18 and would be offered by Florence Geise, who has more than 40 years of ballet experience.Geise trained in New York and with the Russian Ballet School. She also directed the Schuylkill Ballet Theatre's production of The Nutcracker for more than 20 years.The workshop will include basic barre and center movement, as well as French terminology.For more information, or to register, call 570-668-1192.Honor studentThe name of Jayden Kubert was inadvertently omitted from the Tamaqua Elementary Honor Roll for the fourth quarter of the 2013-2014 school year. A third-grade student, Jayden earned high honors.Summer concertThe next event in the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce's Summer Concert Series will be July 10 and will feature Carol Tempest. Concerts are held from 6 to 8 p.m., on select Thursdays, on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station throughout the summer season.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional service Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. A contemporary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Tamaqua YMCA, including nursery and primary church. Sunday school classes, for all ages, will meet at 9:15 a.m. at the church.Also on Sunday, volunteers will be going door to door, distributing flyers about the upcoming vacation Bible school.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m., GriefShare at 10 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., TYM staff meeting at 8 p.m.; Thursday, VBS meeting at 6 p.m.; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 8:30 a.m., praise practice at 9 a.m.
