Former resident receives promotion

A former Jim Thorpe resident, Paul Henning, a 1993 graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School, was recently promoted to major in the U.S. Army.He is the son of Darlene Henning of Jim Thorpe. He received a doctoral degree from Florida State University.Major Henning completed two combat tours in Iraq. He resides in Upton, Massachusetts, and is with the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine in Natuk, Massachusetts.Clothing collection and giveawaySt. Paul's Lutheran Church, located on Old Stage Road in Albrightsville, will hold a clothing collection and giveaway during the month of July.Collection of good, clean, clothing and shoes will take place from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; from noon until 3 p.m. on Sunday; and from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday.The giveaway dates and times are from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. July 16; 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. July 17 and 18; and 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. July 19.Volunteers are always needed.
