Franklin Township opened the Babe Ruth 14U double-elimination tournament with a pair of victories.
BABE RUTH14U TournamentFranklin Twp.-PottsvilleFranklin Township kicked off the Babe Ruth 14U Tournament with an impressive 28-0 rout of Pottsville on Saturday.Daniel Keer led Franklin Township with three hits and was also the winning pitcher. Johnny Herman, Zach Crum and Gabe Wagner all added two hits for Franklin.All the games in the five-team tournament are being held at Christman Field in Franklin Township. Play will continue throughout the week with the championship game slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday.Franklin Twp.-TowamensingDaniel Keer and Johnny Herman knocked in sixth inning runs as Franklin Township broke open a tie game and went on to beat Towamensing, 10-9, in the winner's bracket semifinals.Herman finished with three hits for Franklin Township, which meets Valley in the the winner's bracket final on Wednesday at 5:45 p.m.Towamensing, which falls into the loser's bracket, was led by Jacob Taschner's two hits.PANTHER VY. 11-12 L.L. TOURNAMENTTamaqua Blue-AnthraciteMatthew Kistler pitched a one-hitter and Emma Kuczynski slugged a pair of home runs to lead Tamaqua Blue to a 16-1 win over Anthracite in the Panther Valley Tournament.Tamaqua also received homers from Emily Titus and Michael Minchhoff.For Anthracite, its lone run came on a homer by Jake Taras.
