A Carbon County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 8:15 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Old Stage Road and Hiawatha Trail in Penn Forest Township.

State police at Fern Ridge said Andrew E. Helmer, 53, of Albrightsville, was driving a 2006 Ford F150 truck northbound on Hiawatha Trail while Andrew Alvarez, 18, of Albrightsville, was eastbound in a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse on Old Stage Road.Troopers said Helmer failed to yield after a stop sign and traveled into the path of Alvarez. The front of the Eclipse struck the rear driver side of the truck. After impact the truck spun counterclockwise and came to rest facing southwest. The Eclipse came to rest facing north on the roadway. Damages were termed major to the Eclipse and minor to the truck. No one was injured.Troopers said Helmer was found to be under the influence and had a 0.21 BAC. He was also cited for multiple summary offenses.
