Crews rescue snake bite victim from Glen Onoko

Fire and ambulance crews answered calls to help a snake bite victim at Glen Onoko Falls Saturday night.

The 23-year-old woman was at the third falls, near the top, said Lehigh and Lausanne Rural Volunteer Fire Company Deputy Chief Keith Koch.

The calls went out at about 8 p.m. to Franklin Township, Trachsville and Nesquehoning fire departments, he said.

Koch said Jim Thorpe firefighters had already taken a Stokes basket to the woman, and that his firefighters, who arrived at the top of the falls by traveling across state game lands, helped carry her out of the woods. They loaded her into a vehicle and took her a waiting ambulance. Lehighton paramedics then took her a hospital.

The woman’s name is not known, and due to medical confidentiality laws, it was not possible for the Times News to obtain information on her condition. Firefighters didn't know what type of snake bit the woman.
