LONG POND – Penske Racing’s Juan Pablo Montoya has won the Pocono INDYCAR 500 Fueled by Sunoco. 

The win is Montoya’s first open wheel victory since Sept. 17, 2000, when he triumphed at the Motorola 300 at Gateway International Raceway in the now-defunct CART Series. The victory is also the 12th of his career.

“I want to thank Roger (Penske) for believing in me after so many years out of an Indy car,” Montoya said afterwards. “This is fantastic.” 

Montoya wasn’t the only Penske driver that had a strong day, as teammate Helio Castroneves took second. 

“For Team Penske and Chevrolet, our sponsors PPG, Verizon and certainly Hitachi, what a great day here,” Penske said. “We just need it to continue.” 

Carlos Munoz, Ryan Briscoe and Scott Dixon rounded out the top five.
