Scout builds owl boxes for project

Chris Ross of Jonas, Monroe County, recently completed an Eagle Scout service project that helps Pennsylvania owls.

Ross is a member of Boy Scout Troop 209 in Towamensing Township. He built 12 wooden owl nesting boxes, designed for owls to roost and rear their young, to be put in Beltzville State Park and Beltzville Wildlife Management Area, Carbon County.Ross collected donations to fund the project and found volunteers to build, stain and erect the nesting boxes.Ten of the boxes were mounted on trees with rubber hosing, while the remaining two boxes were placed in local barns.Ross' efforts were coordinated with the Game Commission, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and DCNR state park officials.
