Tams ousted

A power display that featured six home runs was put on display in a District 18 11-12 Little League post-season clash between Tamaqua and Valley West.

Four runs in the last two innings helped propel Valley West to a 7-5 victory over Tamaqua.Tamaqua jumped out to the early advantage as Cody Hamm and Nate Boyle both crushed solo home runs in the bottom of the first inning.Valley West's Lance Book responded with a solo shot in the very next inning. Some sloppy Tamaqua fielding then gave Valley West the temporary lead."It was a great little league game on both sides," said Valley West head coach Bob Bartal. "We've played them for three years and it's always a battle. This group of kids doesn't quit."Emma Kuczynski and Cody Hamm supplied Tamaqua with more offense to give their team the 5-3 lead heading into the fifth inning."We left too many kids on base," said Tamaqua head coach Scott Hamm. "We had a chance but we just couldn't come up with the hits at the right time. We were one strike away from putting it away."With two outs in the top of the sixth inning, Valley West's Jordan Stefanick hit a solo home run to tie the game up at 5-5.Andrew Vayda added a two-run double later in the frame to extend the Valley West lead to 7-5."Jordan (Stefanick) struggled in this tournament but he never hug his head, never quit, and came up huge for us tonight when we were down to our last out," Bartal said.Tamaqua's sixth inning rally fell short as it left runners stranded on second and third base to end the game."You don't get this far by not being good. We're a lot better than what we showed today," said Hamm. "I'm really proud of these kids and the way they played. This group of kids is like a family. It's a shame to go down like this but there's always more baseball coming up."Bartal was very proud of his ball club and they way they played."I told the kids that you could do whatever you put your mind to," he said. "The kids are fun and they pick each other up, they make going to practice fun every day. We even had a kid play through bronchitis and that says a lot about the character and dedication of this team."Valley West 030 013 - 7 8 1Tamaqua 202 100 - 5 6 3McGowan, Vayda(5) and Bartal; Minchoff, Hamm (6), Ligenza (6) and Titus.
