The Consumer Product Safety Commission has named July 14-20 as "Pool Safely Pledge Week."

"Pool Safely: Simple Steps to Save Lives," a national public education campaign to reduce childhood drownings, nonfatal submersion injuries and entrapments, encourages organizations to conduct an activity on water safety, such as swim lessons, CPR training and water safety demonstrations. The week also asks both children and adults to take the pool safely pledge. The pledge for children states that they will never swim alone, will ask parents to sign them up for swimming lessons and will stay away from drains in the pool. For adults, the pledge states that they will "designate a water watcher every single time a child is in or near the water, make sure the children know how to swim, learn CPR, always remove portable pool ladders when not in use, and ensure all permanent pools have a proper fence and gate and safety drain cover."To sign the pledge, visit
