Tamaqua Legion game suspended

Knowing severe thunderstorms were imminent, both Valley View and Tamaqua opened their Schuylkill-Berks Legion North Division contest with a sense of urgency.

The West Enders got on the board first with two runs in the opening frame, highlighted by Hunter Bordner's two-run single that scored Jarred Matter and Ben Rautzahn.But the Blue Sox answered in the bottom of the inning. Nate MacDonald, who smoked a one-out double to right field and moved to third on an Owen Bates single, scored on a Devin Masser wild pitch to cut the deficit to 2-1.Valley View padded its advantage in the third when Masser knocked in Rautzahn with a single to make it 3-1. The West Enders appeared to be in position to break the game open with runners on first and second and two outs, but the skies finally opened and prevented the teams from continuing.The game will be completed Wednesday, July 2, at 6:00 p.m. at Tamaqua with Valley View leading 3-1 in the top of the third inning.

BOB FORD/TIMES NEWS Tamaqua's Owen Bates is out at third base in Wednesday's Schuylkill-Berks Legion game against Valley View. The game was halted due to rain and will be resumed next week.
