A Plains, Luzerne County, woman apparently has a real affection for the Hometown Commons Walmart, as evidenced by the five preliminary hearings she recently had scheduled before District Judge Stephen Bayer, of Tamaqua.

Barbara Lynn Figueiredo, 34, of 236 Maffett St., waived her right to those hearings, electing to have her cases heard in Schuylkill County Court. In each case, she was charged by Rush Township police, either Sgt. Duane Frederick or Patrolman Adam Sinton.The charges from Feb. 4 include conspiracy to commit retail theft (three counts from two incidents) and conspiracy to receive stolen property. From Feb. 19, she was charged with retail theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy to commit retail theft. She was back at the retail store on Feb. 28 and charged with retail theft, conspiracy to commit retail theft and conspiracy to receive stolen property. A shopping trip on March 1 resulted in charges of retail theft, receiving stolen property, conspiracy to commit retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.For three of the cases she was released on her own recognizance. Bail for the Feb. 19 incident was set at $1,000, while the March 1 incident brought a bail of $15,000. She was unable to post the required 10 percent and was lodged in the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville.Marc Joseph Tita, 33, of 9 Sandbrook Circle, Lehighton, was in court to answer to charges filed in two incidents, both occurring in Tamaqua.On Feb. 10, Tita was charged by Patrolman Richard Bekesy for fleeing/attempting to elude police, disorderly conduct, driving with a suspended license, failure to stop at a stop sign, reckless driving, careless driving, operating a vehicle without a valid inspection sticker and misuse of a license plate. On April 27, patrolman Matthew Houser charged Tita with fleeing/attempting to elude police, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, failure to stop at a stop sign, driving with a suspended license.He was lodged in the county prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.Jason Demarco, 38, of 627 Wyoming St., Tuscarora, elected to have his preliminary hearing and had a charge of stalking dismissed. However, additional charges of stalking, making terroristic threats, harassment and defiant trespass were all bound over for court trial. The charges were filed by Tamaqua patrolman Karl Harig following an April 17 incident.Demarco was released on $250,000 unsecured bail.Three defendants failed to appear for their preliminary hearings on June 12.Larry Lee Miller, 32, of 215 E. High St., Coaldale, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges stem from an April 15 incident and were filed by Coaldale police Sgt. Keith Krapf.Keri M. Balogach, 33, of 39 W. Lehigh St., Coaldale, was charged with writing a bad check by Krapf. The incident took place on March 15.Ryan James Verbitsky, 23, of 640 N. Laurel St., Hazleton, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a Feb. 3 incident. The charges were filed by Tamaqua patrolman Matthew Houser.Warrants could be issued for the arrests of the three.
