New assistant high school principal hired in Lehighton

A Berwick Area School District teacher has been tabbed as Lehighton Area School District's new assistant high school principal.

The school board voted 8-0 Monday, with Director Hal Resh absent, to hire Jennifer Evans as assistant high school principal at an annual salary of $70,000. The effective date will be determined, pending clearances.Evans, who most recently worked as a high school mathematics instructor at Berwick Area High School, told the board she was thankful for its support."I'd like to thank the board, (Superintendent) Mr. (Jonathan) Cleaver, and the interviewing panel for this opportunity," Evans said. "I'm looking for a long career serving the faculty, staff, students and local community."Earlier in the meeting, the board unanimously agreed to accept the resignation of Daniel Repsher from the post, effective July 31.Repsher has held the position since December of 2011. Last month, he was hired as assistant principal at Parkland High School at an annual salary of $87,000.Evans has 14 years of experience; 10 years of full-time classroom instruction, and four years of substitute teaching.She received her undergraduate degree in communications and her master's degree in secondary education with a focus on mathematics, from Missouri State University. She has a principal certificate for K-12.After the meeting, Evans, who lives in Berwick, said she's looking forward to her new position."I am excited and prepared for the challenges that lie ahead for the upcoming school year, with the use of data and collective analysis," she said. The summer positions will be paid at the current contracted hourly rate out of 2013-2014 Title I funds.• Approved requests from Joanna Kozyra-Barilla, from July 7 through Aug. 15, American National Government; and Michael Feifel, from July 21-31, The Progressive Era, for pre-approval of courses/programs for continuing education.• Approved the School Enrichment Journey requests for high school FBLA Matthew Fisher/Kim Mychaliszyn-Simko, on Oct. 16 to Palmerton Area High School to participate in the FBLA Region 21 Workshop; and from Nov. 2-3, to State College to participate in the FBLA State Leadership Workshop.• Acknowledged FMLA leaves for employee for two employees, not to exceed 12 weeks.• Approved the July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2017, Compensation Plan for Administrators and Managers Agreement, as reviewed by the school district's solicitor.
