Snake roundup in NE Pa. nets 71 wrigglers

NOXEN (AP) Organizers say scores of serpents were collected during Noxen's annual Rattlesnake Roundup in northeastern Pennsylvania over the weekend.

Forty hunters brought in a total of 71 snakes 28 rattlesnakes, six copperheads and 37 nonvenomous snakes.Only five of the rattlers brought in had beencaptured in previous hunts.The two-day huntsanctioned by the Pennsylvania Fish and BoatCommission raises money for Wyoming County firefighters.Many parents brought children to pass on the Noxen tradition, which began in 1973.After winners were announced, the snakes were collected to be taken back to their naturalhabitat.
