Shockers top Black Diamonds

The Franklin Township Shockers and the Panther Valley Black Diamonds are two teams that know each other very well. The familiarity showed as the game featured just two extra-base hits.

Panther Valley held on to a two-run lead after five innings. A Thatcher David two-RBI single in the sixth inning helped propel the Shockers to a 4-0 victory.Brady Niehoff blanked Panther Valley as he tossed a complete game, yielding four hits, walking one, and striking out two batters."Brady pitched very well," said Franklin head coach Donnie Rehrig. "I know what I'll get from him whenever he goes out there. He throws a lot of strikes and relies on his defense and they made the plays."The offense was limited on both sides in the contest. David also contributed a sacrifice fly, as Vince Mele had the other RBI in the contest."We had some opportunities early in the game but we had some mental mistakes. I thought we were a little too aggressive early on," Rehrig said.Panther Valley had some base runners as well, but couldn't cash in on the opportunities. The Black Diamonds loaded the bases in the fifth inning, and left two runners on to end the game.Mark Williams and Colton Black each ripped a double in the contest. Chris Weber contributed two singles of his own."We had a few hits here and there and that was it. We couldn't get a hit at the right time and we left some runners on base today," said Panther Valley head coach Rich Evanko.Despite the loss, Evanko was encouraged with what he saw from his starting pitcher Luke Stano and the rest of his ball club."We had two double headers in two days. My main concern is arms right now; we have some kids away from the team. Luke threw a gem the other day and I thought he did an excellent job out there for us today," explained Evanko. "We're playing a lot of baseball right now and we seem to be getting in rhythm. I was happy with the way everyone played today. We brought up some younger kids and a lot of them were playing out of position and we were still competitive at the end. We gave them (Franklin) one or two extra outs and they made us pay for it."Rehrig credited Jordan McElmoyle with having a few nice at bats in the contest."These kids love to play baseball and they have fun" added Rehrig. "When they stay focused they play very well. They've been playing together since they were thirteen and they mesh well together."Panther Vy. 000 000 0 - 0 4 2FT Shockers 011 002 x - 4 6 1Stano and Buss; Niehoff and Snerr. W - Niehoff.
