Library receives grant from Dollar General Literacy Foundation

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded the Panther Valley Library a $1,500 grant to support children and teen summer reading literacy.

A library spokesman said that Dollar General's grant will allow the library to reach more young people with its Summer Reading Program and expressed their gratitude."At Dollar General, we are passionate about our mission of serving others throughout the communities we serve," said Rick Dreiling, Dollar General's chairman and CEO."It's exciting to see the Dollar General Literacy Foundation's outreach in action as we partner with organizations to further education and literacy and make a real difference in people's lives."Panther Valley Library has programs to reach young children in day care with its weekly Story Hour, Pie in the Sky afterschool reading challenge program for children and teens, adult health education classes in partnership with St. Lukes Miners Memorial Hospital, bookmobile for the elderly in the mid-rise and the Summer Reading program for children and teens.The Dollar General Literacy Foundation supports initiatives that help others improve their lives through literacy and education.Since its inception in 1993, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded more than $92 million in grants to nonprofit organizations, helping more than five million individuals take their first steps toward literacy or continued education.For more information on the Panther Valley Library or its Summer Reading Program, or to register a child, contact Dawn Neyer at the library, located at 117 E.
