Two men charged in Mahoning incident

Two men were charged with burglary and related counts for an incident in Mahoning Township.

On Sunday at 3:09 p.m. township police received a report of suspicious people at a home along Oak Grove Drive. The home was previously damaged by fire on Feb. 15.The homeowner had not yet moved back, due to the damage, and a neighbor alerted police about the two men.An officer arrived within five minutes and found two men inside the garage area of the home holding copper.They were identified as Robert Ruzicka, of Palmerton, and John Ruzicka, of Mahoning Township.They told police they were looking for Robert Ruzicka's phone. Police found John Ruzicka's vehicle parked down the road with the hood propped up.As a result police arrested both men and charged them each with burglary (felony); criminal conspiracy-burglary (felony); criminal trespass (felony); criminal conspiracy-criminal trespass (felony); theft (misdemeanor); and criminal conspiracy-theft by unlawful taking or disposition (misdemeanor).The two were arraigned before District Judge Edward Lewis of Jim Thorpe. They were placed in theCarbon County CorrectionalFacility in Nesquehoning afterfailing to post 10 percent of $25,000 bail.John Ruzicka was previously arrested by Mahoning Township Police on April 21 for theft, possession of drug paraphernalia (misdemeanor); and possession of marijuana (misdemeanor).He waived his right to a preliminary hearing for these charges on June 4.

John Ruzicka
