Vehicle stop leads to drug charges

A vehicle stop in Monroe County has led to the arrest of a Luzerne County resident on drug charges.

State police at Fern Ridge said Maurice Steele, 26, of Wilkes-Barre, was stopped for multiple traffic violations at 5:43 p.m. on Saturday along Route 115 at Maple Road in Tobyhanna Township.On scene, troopers observed several indicators of criminal activity, and a consent search was made of the vehicle.Found in the trunk of the car were 11 pounds of marijuana and 22 packets of synthetic marijuana.Steele was taken into custody and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, and one count each of possession, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also charged with multiple motor vehicle code violations.He was arraigned and placed in the county prison in Snydersville, troopers said.
