David C. Burrell Jr. has resigned from Lansford Parks and Recreation board.

However, Lansford Borough Council has refused to accept the resignation.Tuesday night council voted 4-2 against letting Burrell step down and instead will ask him to reconsider.Opposed to his resignation were council members Mary Soberick, Rose Mary Cannon, Colin Jones and Samantha Yasson.Voting in favor of accepting it were council President Martin Ditsky and Tommy Vadyak.Council praised Burrell for his contributions to recreation, noting that he recently helped to refurbish one of the basketball courts."We're hoping he reconsiders," Cannon said.In other recreation news, it was reported that the borough skateboard park and basketball court have been vandalized.Regarding the basketball court, it was reported that those responsible will pay for repairs.Cannon said there has been "a lot of vandalism and bad behavior at the skate park.""There are a lot of kids using it the correct way," she said, adding that vandals "are ruining it for the kids who want to use it correctly."Cannon also expressed concern that the skateboard park is a site where illegal drug activity is occurring.Following a suggestion from Cannon, it was agreed that ramps at the park will be moved closer to the roadway so they can be watched better.Council also agreed to purchase a new refrigerator at a cost of $439 for the Lansford Little League Field refreshment stand.Council was informed that the roof construction on the buildings at the municipal swimming pool has been completed.Volunteers are preparing the pool for its season opening.
