The Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission (ESRC) tipped off it's annual summer basketball league on Wednesday evening at the North and Middle Ward Playground in Tamaqua.

In a huge early season showdown, Batter's Box needed two overtimes to get by Martin's Printing, while Lucky's Deli and Sherry Dental also notched victories on opening night.E Mortgage Management-Lucky's DeliLucky's Deli started out on a 19-2 run and never looked back, as they rolled to a 72-52 upset victory over E Mortgage Management.Lucky's Deli combined for 14 three-pointers as Jack Buchinsky led the way with 23 points and seven treys. Travis Leonarczyk added 15 points while Ed Michalik chipped in with 12.For E Mortgage Managment, Ryan Achenbach tallied 22 points while Cory Houser added 14 of his own.Martin's Printing-Batter's BoxIt took two overtime periods to decide a winner, but when the dust finally cleared, Batter's Box emerged with a 78-76 victory over Martin's Printing.With six seconds left in regulation, Erick Trabal gave Batter's Box a 63-61 lead; however, Christian Laputka tied the game up with a layup as time expired. The two teams remained tied at 70-70 after the first overtime session. Bekim Mehmeti gave Batter's Box a 78-76 lead (and eventual win) with two clutch free throws with nine seconds remaining in the second overtime.Erick Trabal netted a game-high 24 points to lead Batter's Box, while Bejtullah Mehmeti tacked on 17 points.For Martin's Printing, Ethan Eichhorst (22 points) and Brandon DeCosmo (19 points, six three-pointers) led the way.Sherry Dental-Dom N Ali'sWith the second half being played in the rain, Sherry's Dental battled the elements and came away with a 54-47 victory over Dom N Ali'sKyle McGee paced Sherry Dental with a game-high 15 points.
