Penn Forest fires two employees Supervisor faces harrassment charges

Following an executive session Monday evening, the Penn Forest board of supervisors fired two administrative employees.

Cindy Henning, who is also the administrative shop steward for the union, and Carol Matthews were both let go in a 4 to 1 vote of the board.Supervisor Judy Knappenberger was the only one voting no.An altercation took place on May 9, when Henning, upon hearing an argument between two of the supervisors, attempted to enter the break room where the argument was taking place."Upon attempting to enter the room, she was grabbed by Mr. (Warren) Reiner and pushed out of the room," said Henning's attorney, Adam Meshkov.Meshkov also said that Henning was so shaken by the incident that she reported it to the Pennsylvania State Police. On May 13 a summary charge of harassment subject to physical contact was brought against Reiner by Officer Thomas S. Lyon of Lehighton state police. When asked about the incident and charges, Reiner stated that he had no comment. No plea has been entered to date.Henning has turned to her attorney and the Teamsters Local 773 for help.In November of last year employees of Penn Forest Township voted to join the Teamster union."We will do everything we can to assist both Ms. Henning and Ms. Matthews," said Joe Wieder, vice president of the Teamsters."Myself and our attorney are in the process of gathering information. At a minimum we will be bringing unfair labor practice charges against Penn Forest Township before the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board."What concerns me," Wieder went on to say, "is that they seem to want to make people regret having joined the union. It seems to me that they just want to break the union."The motions to terminate Henning and Matthews were both brought by Supervisor Scott Lignore.Following the terminations, former Supervisor Paul Montemuro directed a question to Lignore."Hey Scott," Montemuro said."Didn't you once say, and I quote, 'I don't know why anyone would work here 'cause if you piss them off they fire you'?""Yes, yes I did," was Lignore's response.
