Tamaqua man arraigned in stabbing

A Tamaqua man accused in the Saturday stabbing of his roommate is now in Schuylkill County Prison.

Thomas Ruzzano appeared before Magisterial District Judge Stepen J. Bayer Tuesday afternoon after being apprehended by Tamaqua police and charged in an alleged altercation that took place in a residential neighborhood along Route 309.According to the criminal complaint provided by arresting officer Michael Hobbs, police were dispatched to 220 Pine St. about 8 p.m. for a report of a stabbing. Arriving on scene, police learned that Randy Gilson, 51, 231 Pine St. and Thomas Ruzzano, 44, same address, had been involved in a fight in front of 220 Pine St.Gilson had a stab wound to his abdominal area, according to police. Tamaqua EMS responded and transported the victim to St. Luke's Hospital - Miners Campus, Coaldale, after which he was transferred to St. Luke's University Hospital, Bethlehem.According to Rick Weaver, Tamaqua police chief, Ruzzano was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault, recklessly endangering, harassment and disorderly conduct.After arraignment at 3 p.m. Tuesday at magisterial district court, Rear 320 E. Broad St., Ruzzano was taken to Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.
