A single vehicle accident occurred at 5:35 p.m. May 16 on Lower Smith Gap Road in Lower Towamensing.

Ruthanna Hans, 16, of Aquashicola was driving a 1986 Volvo 240 traveling north bound.She was traveling in the right lane and failed to negotiate a left turn due to high speed.The vehicle left the roadway and rotated onto the soft shoulder into its initial point of impact and came to final rest against a large tree.The driver was moderately injured and was taken to Palmerton Hospital for further evaluation.She was wearing a seat belt.Hans was charged for driving too fast for conditions.The vehicle was towed from the scene by Schliers Towing.
