May 19, 1999 Tamaqua's Noel Powell captures three gold medals and Marian's Erin Brady earns two at the District 11 Class AA track and field championships. Powell claims first in the 100, 200 and long jump while Brady crosses first in 200 and 400. Palmerton's Jeff Dobias wins the 3200 and sets a new district record of 9:28.7. Northern Lehigh crowns five champions, as Matt Oertner (800), Will McCullough (300 IH), Ashlie Hankee (100 H), Dani Underkoffer (shot) and Mary Boyle (high jump) all get wins. Other area champs include Palmerton's Tony Jordan (discus) and Sarah Krebs (1600) and Northwestern's Melissa Miller (discus).
