Local police to target aggressive drivers

Mahoning Township and Weatherly Police Departments recently announced enforcement activities as part of a Special Aggressive Driving Funding Project.

Police will be targeting motorists exhibiting aggressive-driving behaviors such as running red lights, speeding and tailgating. Those roadways involved include routes 443 and 902 in Mahoning Township, and Route 4010 or State Street in Weatherly.A significant number of these crashes are the result of distracted driving, following too closely, passing in no passing zones and driving at unsafe speeds. This enforcement effort is part of the Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project and is funded by part of PennDOT's $2.5 million investment of federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The project will conclude on Sept. 14.
