'Music Sunday' slated at Lehighton church

May 18 is "Music Sunday" at Zion United Church of Christ, Second and Iron streets, Lehighton.

The service will be held in the sanctuary of Zion UCC at 10:15 a.m. and is under the direction of Bradly R. Cressley, Director of Music.This unique order of worship is one completely of music. Featured will be the church's Chancel Choir as well as the Choraliers (Junior Choir). Both the Junior and Senior bell Choirs will also perform.Additionally, Zion's Sanctuary Sounds, an 11 piece instrumental group, will assist in the service with hymns and special music.Music Sunday is held each year on the third Sunday of May and is in honor of Paul and Linn Smith, who served as music director and organist at Zion UCC for 44 years.The duo was responsible for the creation of Zion Opera Workshop and have been and still are involved in music throughout the community.Cindy Mack will play Zion's grand organ. Also featured will be music from Erin McGinley and Amanada Yoder in a junior flute duet; Laura Cressley, Alyssa Schoch and Morgan Steigerwalt in a senior flute trio; and SyanI (the church's ukulele duo made up of Sy Kipp and Judy Grieg).Other selections include a vocal solo by Shannon Frycklund, an autoharp medley from Clark Ritter, and the ukulele duet of Elliott and Emily Roberti.Songs like "You Raise Me up, So Great," "God Is" (featuring Laura Cressley on Jazz style flute), "Celebrate Jesus," "Here I am Lord," and "Stand by Me" are among the many selections to be featured.The message is the joy and elation that music can bring.
