Hunger Weekend slated in Tamaqua

The Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network, an affiliate of the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership, is sponsoring "Hunger Weekend" to help provide food for families living in the boundaries of the Tamaqua Area School District that are in need of a helping hand.

Members of TAFFN and The Tamaqua Area Community Partnership are encouraging service organizations, businesses, church groups and individuals to collect food and funds that will be given to the community food banks at the Tamaqua Salvation Army and Tamaqua TrinityUnited Church of Christ, which in turn distribute food to families that need help. The date for the weekend is May 17 and 18 with a rain date of May 24 and 25. Nonperishable foods may be dropped off at the Tamaqua YMCA, the Tamaqua Public Library and the Tamaqua Community Art Center. A number of churches and civic organizations are also collecting canned goods and cash donations.Hunger Weekend culminates on Sunday, May 18, with the Tamaqua Hunger Walk. Walkers will meet at the Tamaqua Family Practice (Dr. Krause's office) parking lot on South Railroad and walk north to Broad, west to St. Jerome's parking lot, north to Hegarty Avenue, east to Nescopec, south to Broad and then return to the parking lot. Those choosing to walk will ask people to sponsor them. For more information or for participation and donation forms, contact Paul Dodson at 570-668-0289.
