Teen driver injured in Schuylkill crash

A 17-year-old female driver from Cressona was taken to a Lehigh Valley area hospital following a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, along Browns Road, Schuylkill Haven.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the teen was driving a 2001 Chevrolet pickup when she failed to negotiate a right curve in the road. The truck traveled across the westbound lane and struck a tree along the berm. It then continued about 70 feet before it struck a second tree and flipped over onto the driver's side.The female was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson Street, Pottsville, and later transferred to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment of what troopers said were moderate injuries.A 17-year-old male passenger, from Schuylkill Haven, sustained minor injuries in the accident. The driver and passenger were not wearing seat belts, troopers noted. Troopers also said the driver will be cited.
