A Slatington driver is facing charges, including driving under the influence following a traffic stop in Walnutport.
Officer Shawn Leadbetter stopped a vehicle operated by Matthew Andrew Gnas, 19, of 430 E. Franklin St., about 7:45 p.m. on April 20 in the a area of Cherry and Main streets, for operating a vehicle without headlamps or taillamps after sunset.At the stop Gnas showed signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance and was placed under arrest. He was transported to the borough police station where a qualified drug recognition expert, Sgt. Jason Nothstein, conducted an examination of the suspect and determined he was under the influence of a controlled substance.Gnas was then taken to the Palmerton hospital for a blood test. The test results showed the presence of marijuana in his system.Gnas has been charged with DUI-controlled substance, DUI-controlled substance/alcohol combination, careless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, and periods for requiring lighted lamps.
