Palmerton's annual race is Saturday

Die-hard runners will look to finish No. 1, while others will walk and some will run for fun.

With their participation, Blue Mountain Health System's 13th annual 5K Road Race/Walk/Kids' Fun Run on Saturday seemingly can't go wrong.Presented by the medical staff of the Blue Mountain Health System, the run will be held at 9 a.m. at the Palmerton Borough Park. Registration is at 8 a.m.The course is a loop that will start and finish at the park, located at Third Street and Franklin Avenue. The 5,000-meter course is officially certified by the USA Track & Field Association.All proceeds benefit the Blue Mountain Health System. Last year, 710 participants competed in the event.Awards will be given to the top overall male and female runner. Stethoscopes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in the age groups 12 and under, 13-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and up.There will also be a team competition, with awards given to the team with the most finishers and the fastest team.First prize in each category is a $100 check made out to a charity of the team's choosing. There must be a minimum of four members per team.The Kid's Fun Run will follow at 10 a.m. and be held entirely inside the park.For children, the run is as follows: Ages 4 and under, mile; ages 5-6, mile; ages 7-8, 1/2 mile; ages 9-10, 1 mile.
