Schuylkill man facing charges in theft by deception

A Schuylkill County man is facing charges in what state police at Schuylkill Haven are calling a robbery/theft by deception incident.

Troopers said between March 24 and April 24, William J. Murphy, 45, of Pottsville, used various schemes to deceive Joseph Mikolajunas, 58, of Schuylkill Haven, into loaning him $10,000 in the form of $100 gift cards, cash advances, personal checks and cash.At one point Murphy used force to solicit money for Michele Terenchin, 39, also of Pottsville. The cards and checks were used at various store locations in the Saint Clair, Pottsville and Schuylkill Haven areas.On April 30 about 2 a.m. Pottsville city police apprehended Murphy and Terenchin. The two were arraigned on various charges before on-call District Judge David A. Rossi, of Tremont. Murphy was committed to the county prison in Pottsville in lieu of $30,000 cash bail. Terenchin was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
