Military families' teensinvited to leadership camp in Georgia

Children of military families are invited to apply to attend the Joint Reserve Component Teen Leadership Summit to be held July 6 to 11 at Wahsega 4-H Center, Dahlonega, Georgia.

Now in its fifth year, the summit is a weeklong camp for 14-18 year old dependent teens of current Army, Air, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard reserve, including guard, family members. Teens will focus on leadership development and self-confidence, learn about programs and services available to military dependents, and build an appreciation for and sense of belonging to the geographically separated military community.Application deadline is May 15.Eligibility requirements, selection criteria and frequently asked questions are located at

t.uga.edu/cR. Most costs including airfare from the closest major airport, meals, lodging and camp registration fees are supported by the Extension Military High Adventure Camp initiative between the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Purdue University.Interested adult volunteers are needed to support the camping program and arrive one day before the teens.Adult volunteers supervise the teens in cabins and complete the Georgia 4-H screening process while having fun with the teens in the camp programming.Like teen participants, most costs are centrally supported. Military members, in past years, have often been granted permissive temporary duty assignment to attend by their units. Information and application packages for adults are located at the same website. For more information, please contact Casey Mull or Marilyn Huff-Waller at
