The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a variety of activities planned for May, including a visit from the St. Jerome's kindergarten class on May 29.Other activities for the month include: May 6, special "Mother's Day breakfast; May 7, sing a long with Audrey Christ; May 15, celebration of National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day; May 16, foot doctor; May 21, Salvation Army service and gardening day; May 27, cooking class.In addition to weekly sing-alongs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies and social games, the center provides for hairstyling and manicure service. Both require advance notice.Breakfast, lunch and a snack are served daily.Anyone interested in obtaining more information about the center or services provided, may call 570-668-6577 or visit Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.Charity challengeUSA Martial Arts and fitness director Jon Bonner is offering the public the opportunity to take part in a Charity Challenge 5K Run/Walk in an effort to raise funds for one's favorite nonprofit organization. The event will be held on May 17 at the Owl Creek Reservoir and will include a One Mile Kid's Fun Run.The race will be professionally timed by Pretzel City Sports of Reading and music will be provided by DJ "Party Tyme."Refreshments will be available.For more information, contact Bonner at 570-778-6970.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional service Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. A contemporary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Tamaqua YMCA, including nursery and primary church. Sunday school classes, for all ages, will meet at 9:15 a.m. at the church.Also on Sunday, the prayer walk will begin at 1 p.m. at the church and the monthly service at the Tamaqua ABC High Rise will be held at 6 p.m.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 8:30 a.m., praise practice at 9 a.m., PRC seminar at 9 a.m. at Reedsville.Calvary MethodistThe Rev. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school for all ages will be held at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, an evening service and Bible study session will begin at 6:30 p.m. and a hymn sing will be held at the New Ringgold United Methodist Church at 3 p.m.An hour of praise and prayer will be held next Wednesday at 7 p.m.Zion LewistownThe Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include the observation of Rogation Sunday, celebrating the tradition of farming heritage. Sunday school will meet at 9:15 a.m.
