Community giveaway held in Tamaqua

Volunteers and citizens met Saturday morning in Tamaqua with a common goal -- match people who need a household item with people who want to give away a household item.

It was the third year for the Community Giveway, organized by Andy Leibenguth. He and about a dozen volunteers organized the donated items alongside the storage units behind Schickram's Car Wash, Rose Street. The group got a big boost of items from Comfort Inn, Hazelton, which donated bedding and pillows.Leibenguth said that he's grateful for the support of the owners of M & M Self Storage, who allow the event to be held on the property. He explained that the event was started through the Tamaqua Salvation Army. Donated items were accepted during the week and from 8 to 9 a.m., with the giveaway starting just after 9.
