Coaldale man sought in felony shoplifting

Lansford police have issued a felony warrant for Jason Seekins, 37, of 117 W. High St., Coaldale.

Seekins is charged with retail theft following an incident which took place on Sept. 20, 2103 at Family Dollar in Lansford.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Chris Ondrus with District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford, here's what happened:At 12:15 p.m. Ondrus received a call about a shoplifting incident at the store. Ondrus was on another assignment, and so Summit Hill Officer Ryan Kennedy responded. He arrested Seekins for taking a remote control, steering wheel cover and a can of Red Bull, totaling $13.52, from the store.Store manager Nicole Diehl said Seekins had paid for other items, but had the three stolen items in his pants.Seekins waived his Miranda rights and told police he had gone to the store for laundry soap and dog treats.He said he "stupidly decided" to steal the remote. After checking out, he was stopped by employees and asked to return the remote. He said he gave it back and offered to pay for it, and promised to never return to the store.A background check revealed Seekins has two prior shoplifting conviction, making the third a felony.
