The Anthracite Football League is expanding yet again.
New additions Lehighton and Blue Mountain will take the field this season and in 2016, Pottsville will be joining the AFL ranks.The Crimson Tide will become the league's 12th member and will also allow for the league to split into two divisions.With the addition of Lehighton and Blue Mountain this season, smaller A schools were upset they had to play bigger AAA schools on a consistent basis.Now, with the addition of Pottsville in 2016, the AFL will be able to split the league into a big school division (AAA/AA) and small school division (A).The divisions could look like the following:Big school - Pottsville, Blue Mountain, Lehighton, Jim Thorpe, Tamaqua, and North Schuylkill; Small School - Mahanoy, Marian, Minersville, Panther Valley, Schuylkill Haven, and Shenandoah Valley.Even with the additions of Lehighton, Blue Mountain, and then Pottsville in 2016, the AFL may not be done expanding. According to reports, Mount Carmel has also been offered a slot in the AFL as well.
