FBI searches Schuylkill clerk's office

Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation searched the office of embattled Schuylkill County Clerk of Courts Stephen Lukach early Wednesday.

The search began shortly after the courthouse opened for business. It is the day before Lukach's last day in office.He is accused of using taxpayer money to make his personal car payments and to buy electronics and other items for his own use.He has not been charged with any crimes.The alleged wrongdoing was uncovered by county controller Christy Joy as he reviewed a 2011 audit.The county district attorney, the state attorney general and the FBI are investigating the irregularities Joy discovered.Lukach has served as clerk of courts for 27 years.Agent Thomas A. Marakovits of the Allentown bureau declined to comment, saying he could not talk about an ongoing investigation.The investigation is spearheaded by the U.S. Attorney General.Those searching Lukach's office are state troopers and FBI agents.On Wednesday morning, it was business as usual in the clerk's office as agents worked in Lukach's office.

Lukach
