St. Joe's caps great season

The St Joe's Regional Academy 7th and 8th grade girls basketball team turned in a stellar 2013-14 campaign.

The Hammers had a perfect 16-0 regular season, advancing as far as the Allentown Diocesan playoffs, which were played at Allentown Central Catholic.The Hammers defeated Sacred Heart out of Reading 39-20 in the quarterfinal matchup before losing to St. Ambrose 34-31 in the semifinals.St. Joe's accomplished another impressive feat during their season, winning the Marian Fillies Tournament. After losing its first game against Pottsville 29-28, it rallied to win three straight games, including a 38-25 win over Pottsville in the championship game.The Hammers were led by Kayley Kovac. Kovac averaged over 20 points per game and finished with 960 career points.Diocesan quarterfinalSt. Joe's-Sacred HeartSt. Joe's jumped to an early 15-2 lead and never looked back, defeating Sacred Heart 39-20.Kayley Kovac led the Hammers with 21 points while Sarah Gabel added 10.Diocesan semifinalSt. Joe's-St. AmbroseIn a very hard fought battle St. Ambrose went on a 10-5 run in the fourth quarter to gain a 34-31 victory.Kayley Kovac led the Hammers with 18 points while Peyton Kovac added nine points.
