Photography show zooms in on winner
Photography could be considered the most fun and challenging art, so it was no surprise to see the walls in the top floor of the Palmerton Area Library come alive.
This year 58 entries were on display during the 2014 Palmerton Area Library Photography Show, sponsored by the Friends of the Library. This marked the most entered photos in the eight-year history of the annual show.Action, scenic, still life, animals and portraits were just some of the themes for the pictures. The entries were framed, put on custom canvas and some had frames that personalized the individual photograph.Twenty-four area photography buffs took advantage of the show by entering up to three of their personal favorites.La Rue Fritz of Lehighton loves photography."This is my hobby, and I like to enter shows just for the challenge. My husband used to tease me that I took so many pictures of our family that he had to add on another room in the house," Fritz said. This was her first year to enter the Palmerton Library show. She has been entering her work in shows in the county for the past six years.More than 60 people came out in support during the afternoon event. The public voted on one photo for the People's Choice award. The honor went to Evan Deurer of Slatington, along with a $50 check from the Friends of the Library. His photo was set on canvas with high dynamic range imaging and named "The Jester's Door." It was taken while on a tour of the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, which is a National Historical Landmark built in 1829 and closed in 1971.Shutterbug Tony Przasnyski of Lehighton entered three of his scenic photos in the afternoon show."I joined the Palmerton Camera Club a few years ago just because I wanted to trade in my 35 mm and to learn how to use a digital camera. I found out I really liked taking pictures and enjoy being a part of the camera club," Przasnyski said."Besides looking at the great photography here today, I love to just hear all the stories behind the pictures," said Connie Reinhart of Palmerton, an enthusiastic camera buff and newsletter editor of the Palmerton Camera Club. Many of the entries will be available to view or purchase during the next two weeks. They are located in the gallery room at the Palmerton Area Library.
