Woman charged with providing false info

A Nesquehoning woman has been charged with making a false accident report to police to cover for her brother.

Borough police have charged Amber Lyn Cambria, 24, of 140 Rhume St., with false swearing, hindering apprehension or concealment, and hindering apprehension giving false information to a law enforcement officer.Chief Sean Smith said on March 10 at 3:47 p.m. officer Steven Homanko was dispatched to state routes 209 and 54. On scene Homanko learned the striking vehicle had fled the scene and notified Smith. A witness identified the fleeing vehicle as a silver Ford Mustang with a black convertible top.Homanko was familiar with the vehicle and knew it belonged to John Cambria. One person involved in the accident needed medical attention.Smith found the suspect vehicle parked in front of 140 Rhume St. While inspecting the vehicle, Amber Cambria came out of the home and said she was the driver in the hit- and-run accident. Smith told her to get her license, registration and insurance card. While she was gone Smith called Homanko and asked if anyone could identify the driver. Homanko said witnesses said the driver was a male.Amber Cambria then came back out of the home and had her information. Smith then confronted her about the incident stating witnesses had said the driver was a male. Amber Cambria then admitted she lied about being the driver and that her brother was inside the home.Smith told Amber Cambria to go back in the house and tell her brother to come outside. He did and admitted being the driver. He was subsequently charged with hit-and-run and also driving under the influence, Smith said.
