JT Visitor Center set to reopen

A ribbon cutting and grand opening of the newly refurbished Jim Thorpe Visitors Center at the Old Mauch Chunk Train Station, 2 Lehigh Ave., Jim Thorpe, will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17. Carbon Chamber and Economic Development and Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau invites everyone to attend this networking event. Light refreshments will be available.

The ribbon cutting will take place at 6 p.m.Renovations on the Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau's visitor center began in January.The renovations included repairing and refinishing the hardwood floor, reconfiguring the current help desks inside the center, painting, installing video kiosks and updated brochure racks, and updating the town's timeline display.The floor work was completed by Paul Phillips Hardwood Flooring of Hanover Township at a cost of $7,190. Painting of the interior walls was done by Dan Bell of Dan's Painting, Jim Thorpe, at a cost of $5,175.During the project, a temporary visitors center was set up inside Pocono Biking, across the street in Hazard Square.The former train station is owned by Carbon County, and the project is being completed as a joint effort between the county and Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau.
