Carbon man admits to theft incidents; others enter pleas

A Carbon County man pleaded guilty in two pending cases involving theft incidents. He was one of 16 defendants in pending cases to enter a guilty plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Lansford incidentsScott A. Weaver, 28, of Lansford, pleaded guilty to two counts of access device fraud and one count each of theft and retail theft.He was arrested on the fraud and theft counts following an incident on Oct. 12, 2013, at Boyer's Market by Lansford police. He took a purse belonging to Anne Vaccaro, who was shopping at the store, then used a credit card in the purse to make purchases.The retail theft occurred at the Family Dollar Store in Lansford on Nov. 4, 2013. He took merchandise valued at $2.Weaver is currently an inmate in the Lehigh County prison on a probation violation and is awaiting disposition of the case.On the access device fraud and theft counts Matika sentenced him to time served (21 days) to one year in jail, and on the retail theft count six months probation consecutive to the fraud charges.He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, have no contact with Vaccaro, render a total of 75 hours of community service when released on parole, and make restitution of $50.85.Although he was paroled on the charges, he remains in custody and will be returned to the Lehigh County prison.Other pleasOther defendants who entered guilty pleas included:Davon Alexander Jones, 18, of Pittsburgh, pleaded to one count of simple assault.He was charged with an incident at the Youth Forestry Camp in Kidder Township that occurred on Dec. 30, 2013. State police at Fern Ridge charged him with assaulting a camp counselor, Robert Cook, during a fracas that involved other residents of the camp.Jones is currently in a juvenile detention center in Pittsburgh.Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered him to render 50 hours of community service when released from the center.Tonya Hosier, 34, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of retail theft. She was arrested by Mahoning Township police for an incident at the Wal-Mart store on July 6, 2013. She attempted to make a fraudulent return of merchandise she never purchased.Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to get a D&A evaluation, make restitution of $126.60 (her share as their is a co-defendant), stay out of the store during her sentence, and render 50 hours of community service.Jennifer L. Rudelitch, 37, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance. She was arrested at the county prison on July 10, 2013, along with several other female inmates.Corrections officers noticed the females were acting like they were under the influence of substances and found that one of the inmates had supplied the others with illegal substances.Sentencing was deferred.Nikki M. Rehrig, 53, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of retail theft. She was arrested on Oct. 30, 2013, by Mahoning Township police for an incident at the Wal-Mart store.Sentencing was deferred.Tanya L. Mack, 41, of Slatedale, pleaded to one count of identity theft. She was charged by Palmerton police with using the personal information of Jennifer Muffley, her sister-in-law, to open an account with a satellite television network and charging Muffley with the bill.Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to render 50 hours of community service.Mack was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program for first-time offenders but was revoked for failure to complete the conditions.Jordan Daniel Trotta, 21, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of fleeing or attempting to elude police. He was arrested by East Penn Township police for an incident in December 2013.He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.James Frederick, 58, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of marijuana. He was arrested on Dec. 6, 2013, by Lansford police in the area of 50 W. Ridge St., where officers responded to a reported domestic incident.Matika sentenced him to serve 15 to 30 days in the county prison beginning April 11 at 5 p.m. He will serve the time on consecutive two-days weekends.Katrina Hollan, 34, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance-crack cocaine. He was arrested on July 31, 2013, by Lansford police for an incident at the intersection of Tunnel and E. Bertsch Streets, where police observed her making a purchase of the drug.Matika placed her on probation for six months and ordered her to get a D&A evaluation, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, and render 25 hours of community service.Katelyn Anne Roth, 25, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of retail theft. She was arrested on Oct. 5, 2013, by Lansford police for an incident at the Family Dollar Store.Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to render 50 hours of community service, and stay out of the store during her probation period.Taylor James Shramko, 21, of Bethlehem, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on April 6, 2012, by Beaver Meadows police following an incident at Broad and Rose Streets. He was previously placed in the ARD program but was revoked for violation of conditions.Matika imposed a fine of $300.Jared A. Eickoff, 18, of Summit Hill, pleaded to two counts of disorderly conduct, as summary offenses. He was arrested on Nov. 23, 2013, by Nesquehoning police for an incident in the area of 460 E. Catawissa St.Matika imposed a fine of $300 on each count.DUI casesThe following entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence charges.Ryan A. Yackanicz, 22, of Beaver Meadows, was arrested on Nov. 18, 2013, along Broad Street by Beaver Meadows police. Given a test, the result showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred.Harley James Paluch, 21, of White Haven, was arrested on Feb. 28, 2012, along Main Street in Weatherly. Given a test, the result was 0.07 BAC. He was previously placed in the ARD program but was revoked for violating conditions.A first offense, he was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300, get a D&A evaluation, and render 25 hours of community service.Keith M. Evert, 24, of Lehighton, was arrested on May 13, 2012, by Lansford police along Bertsch Street. Given a test, the result showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred.Robin A. Hosier, 51, of Lansford, was arrested on Dec. 8, 2012, along Patterson Street. by Lansford police. She refused a blood test. She was previously placed in the ARD program but was revoked for violating conditions.Matika sentenced her to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.She was given credit for four days spent in jail on the charge and paroled.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs, which average about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
