April is National Library Month at the Palmerton Area Library

The Palmerton Area Library is celebrating National Library Month during this April.

This month is designated "Food for Fines" month and patrons may substitute one nonperishable food item for each $1 owed in fines.All food will be donated to the local food bank in Palmerton run by CACPAC. Donations of food and personal products (soap, deodorant, toothpaste, etc.) will be accepted from anyone during the month as a service to the community.Children in preschool through grade six are invited to participate in the annual book mark contest.Entry forms were sent to all the local elementary schools and preschools. Copies of the forms are also available at the library.Children are asked to make a design or picture illustrating why they love the library. Three winners will be selected in three age categories.Winning entries will be printed as library book marks and handed out at the library during the year. Winners will also receive prizes. Children should submit their entry by 5 p.m., Wednesday, April 9.On Wednesday, April 16 the library will hold its annual Breakfast of Champions honoring all the library volunteers for the past year. R.S.V.P. to the library as soon as possible.The Library Teen Group is once again making plans for lots of fun activities at the library. This group is for students in grades six through 12 and meets the first and third Thursdays of each month at 3:30 p.m. during the school year.The schedule varies for the summer.
