A Monroe County woman was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday evening.

Pocono Mountain Regional police identified the victim as Janine Anes, 49, of Tobyhanna.Police said at 7:58 p.m. officers were dispatched to a reported automobile accident along Route 611, south of Route 423, in Tobyhanna involving a pedestrian.On scene officers found Anes unconscious with severe trauma. Police learned that she was struck by a vehicle operated northbound by Michael Klasen, of Dunmore, Lackawanna County.Anes was airlifted to Geisinger-Wyoming Medical Center, Scranton, where she was pronounced dead at 9:17 p.m.Police closed the northbound lanes while they conducted an investigation until 2 a.m. today.Police were assisted at the scene by volunteers from the Coolbaugh Fire Company.Klasen sustained minor injuries in the accident.Police are continuing their investigation and ask anyone who might have witnessed the accident to call them at 570-895-2400.
