Man jailed for theft, drugs

A New Ringgold man was arrested in Tamaqua Tuesday morning after an incident at Boyer's Food Market, 210 Cedar St.

Christopher Hill, 26, with a last known address in New Ringgold, entered the store before 9 a.m. Witnesses saw him place several items under his jacket and notified store personnel.When stopped by store personnel, Hill had a pumpkin cake roll and a box of gallon size Ziploc bags hidden under his coat. The items were valued at $10.72.Police took Hill into custody. A pat down search turned up a glove containing four packets filled with a substance that field tested positive for heroin, as well as a plastic bag containing a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and retail theft. He was arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer, of Tamaqua, and committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post 10 percent of $10,000 bail.
